Teruel, a Seedbed of Innovation in the Aragonese Economy

In a region as rich in history and resources as Teruel, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are redefining their role as drivers of change towards a more sustainable economic model. This commitment to innovation and collaboration was evident in one of the year’s most significant events, where key stakeholders from various sectors came together to share ideas and solutions for boosting local development.

Teruel became the epicenter of a vibrant debate on integrating circular and social economy principles into business strategies. Supported by entities like CEPES and over 70 collaborating organizations, the event was more than a mere exchange of ideas: it was a decisive step toward fostering synergies among SMEs, public administrations, and other stakeholders.

The circular economy session held in Andorra, Teruel, explored how this model could benefit local businesses. Success stories demonstrated how challenges can be turned into competitive advantages, highlighting the importance of collaboration in regions like this.

Tangible Results for Regional Development

The event not only inspired participants but also delivered concrete outcomes for the future of SMEs in Teruel:

  • Strategic partnerships: Connections were established between cooperatives involved in inclusive value chains, strengthening networks across the region.
  • Territorial diagnosis: Specific regional barriers were identified, and solutions were discussed to overcome them.
  • Visibility of local successes: Real-life cases showcased how businesses have successfully embraced sustainability and circularity principles.

A Forum to Break Barriers and Create Opportunities

One of the most discussed topics was how SMEs can reinvent their business models to integrate circular economy principles innovatively. This challenge is not just about adapting but about leading the way towards a more resilient and sustainable Aragon.

The BIOLOC project efforts are being made to support these businesses on their journey towards sustainability, fostering innovation and encouraging the creation of new bio-based value chains across the territory.

With strategic alliances and a firm commitment to innovation, this region positions itself as a model for the rest of Aragon, demonstrating that the future of the Aragonese economy lies in sustainability, collaboration, and local talent.
